    Mercedes Alonso attended Rutgers University where she received her Masters of Social Work as well as a certificate in the field of Gender Violence. She has over 12 years of clinical experience working with groups, families and individuals.

    Mercedes is bilingual Spanish-speaking therapist/registered yoga teacher. She is a clinician who works with children (ages 5 and up), adolescents and adults. She specializes in supporting individuals with all type of Anxiety, Self-Harm, Mood Disorders, OCD, Anger, Autism, ADHD, Disordered Eating and Trauma. Her goal is to work with individuals of all backgrounds by practicing cultural humility, she practices neurodiversity affirming lens, differences are strengths to be explored and maximized.

    At the forefront of her work is to create a safe and trusting space. She integrates a blend of therapeutic approaches to include Internal Family System (IFS), strength-based, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and expressive play therapy. She also brings creativity, humor and occasional dancing!

    • How do you spend your free time? I consider myself a nature lover, any moment I get I love to soak up the sun and hike!

    • What’s your favorite way to unwind after a hectic day? Do absolutely nothing!

    • If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why? That’s a hard one as I have many but Patagonia is at the top of my list!

    • How do you stay active and healthy? I hike, sleep, yoga and embrace the word “no”!

    • What’s a cause you feel strongly about? Criminal justice reforms and alternative to sentencing for individuals that struggle with mental health, jail is no treatment!
